Ask questions
Structured questionnaires that pause the agent until you answer.
ask_questions is how the agent asks you to decide something before it continues. The host shows a questionnaire: each item can have preset options plus a custom text field.
The run suspends. The tool does not execute in the background. After you submit answers, the agent resumes with those answers in context.
Where you will see it
Plan mode is the usual place — the agent is told to clarify before drafting a plan. Agent mode can still ask when a choice would change the work.
Bypass approval does not skip ask_questions.
Headless CLI
spirit -p cannot show a questionnaire. If the model calls ask_questions, the process fails. Use the TUI, or make the prompt specific enough that no decision is needed.
